Miami Museums for $0 — Here's the Plan
Miami's museum scene punches way above its weight: PAMM's waterfront galleries, the rooftop planetarium at Frost Science, Vizcaya's Italian Renaissance estate, HistoryMiami's hands-on family halls. Full-price admission for a family of four runs $80–$120 per museum. That adds up fast.
The good news: every major Miami museum offers a free day or weekend each month if you know when to go. We've mapped out the schedule below — when each museum is free, who qualifies, and what to expect with kids in tow.
The Big Four Miami Museums
📍 1103 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33132
PAMM is the art museum that put Miami on the global art map. Free Second Sundays include family-friendly programming, art-making activities for kids, and live music in the gardens overlooking Biscayne Bay. Strollers welcome. Reserve free timed tickets online — they go fast.
📍 1101 Biscayne Blvd, Miami, FL 33132
A kid magnet — three-level aquarium, planetarium shows, dinosaur exhibits, and rooftop gardens overlooking the bay. Right next door to PAMM, so you can hit both in one Museums on Us weekend. Best for ages 4 and up; under 2 are always free.
📍 101 W Flagler St, Miami, FL 33130
Hidden gem downtown — Tequesta history, Cuban exile galleries, vintage Miami photography, and a hands-on kids' history room. Less crowded than PAMM and Frost on free weekends, which makes it a great pick if you're traveling with younger kids.
📍 3251 S Miami Ave, Miami, FL 33129
A 1916 estate that feels imported from Italy — formal gardens, fountains, secret grottoes, and a stone barge in the bay. The grounds are stroller-friendly; kids love the maze and the orchidarium. Bring sunscreen and water; most of the experience is outdoors.

Always-Free Miami Museums
📍 285 Aragon Ave, Coral Gables, FL 33134
Set in the historic 1939 police and fire station, this small but well-curated museum is perfect for a 60–90 minute visit. Rotating exhibits on Miami architecture, design, and local artists. Combine it with a walk on Miracle Mile.
📍 1301 Stanford Dr, Coral Gables, FL 33146
A surprisingly deep collection at the University of Miami — Greco-Roman antiquities, Renaissance art, Native American works, and contemporary glass. Easy parking on weekends. Pairs well with lunch on UM's Coral Gables campus.
📍 61 NE 41st St, Miami, FL 33137
Sleek contemporary art museum in the Design District with a sculpture garden out back — perfect for older kids and teens. Always free, always indoor AC, and right next to dozens of design-district shops if you want to extend the day.
Pro Tips for Free Museum Days
📅 Mark Your Calendar
Free Second Sundays and Museums on Us weekends sell out, especially in winter when tourists are in town. Reserve tickets online the moment they release — usually 2 weeks in advance.
🌅 Go Early, Leave by Noon
Aim to arrive when doors open. The first 90 minutes are quiet enough for stroller navigation; by 11 a.m. the lines and crowds peak. Most kids hit a wall by lunch anyway.
🅿️ Plan Parking Ahead
Museum Park (PAMM/Frost) parking fills up fast on free weekends — try the Pérez Art Museum garage or take a rideshare. Vizcaya has its own paid lot. HistoryMiami uses downtown garages.
🎟️ Stack the Discounts
Active military and veterans get free admission year-round at most museums via Blue Star Museums (Memorial Day–Labor Day). EBT/SNAP cardholders qualify for $3 admission via Museums for All.
🥪 Pack Snacks
Museum cafés are pricey and often closed on quieter weekdays. Pack water bottles and shelf-stable snacks. Vizcaya's gardens are picnic-friendly outside the main estate.

Free Museum Days FAQ
When is PAMM free?
PAMM is free for everyone on the second Sunday of every month (Free Second Sundays) and free for Bank of America cardholders on the first full weekend of every month (Museums on Us). Reservations are recommended for Free Second Sundays — they go quickly.
What is Bank of America Museums on Us?
A cardholder benefit. If you have any Bank of America, Merrill, or BofA Private Bank credit or debit card, you get free general admission to 200+ participating museums on the first full weekend of every month — just show your card and photo ID. In Miami: PAMM, Frost Science, HistoryMiami, and Vizcaya.
Is Vizcaya ever free?
Yes — Vizcaya participates in Museums on Us (first full weekend of each month for BofA cardholders) and runs periodic Community Days where Miami-Dade residents get free or reduced admission. Active military, veterans, and EBT cardholders may also qualify year-round.
Are kids always free at Miami museums?
Most museums offer free admission for young children. PAMM is free for kids 6 and under. Frost Science is free for kids 2 and under. HistoryMiami is free for children 5 and under. Vizcaya charges reduced admission for kids 6–12. Always confirm on the museum's site — policies do change.
Do I need to reserve tickets for free days?
Free Second Sundays at PAMM almost always require advance timed tickets — they're free but limited. Museums on Us weekends are usually walk-up first-come, first-served. Arrive early on Saturday or Sunday morning to avoid lines, and check the museum's site the week of your visit.
Which Miami museums are best for toddlers?
Frost Science is the clear winner for toddlers and young kids — interactive aquarium, dinosaur exhibits, and plenty of room to move. HistoryMiami has a hands-on kids' history room. Vizcaya's gardens are stroller-friendly outdoor exploration. PAMM is best for ages 5+ with the structured Free Second Sunday family programming.
